Kina Backpackers provides true value for money on Waiheke Island, 35 minutes from downtown Auckland, New Zealand. It’s your very own piece of paradise. Formally known as Waiheke Island Hostel, the backpackers is now leased by Erin & Luke.

Kina Backpackers offers million dollar views for the budget conscious, the location cannot be beat! Enjoy the big sea views over Onetangi from the large front lawn where you can have a bbq with friends or relax with a book in the hammock. Wake up to the sound of the seagulls or Tui’s and head down the hill for a walk or run along Onetangi Beach (with its 2.5 K of beautiful white sand) to end up at a local beachside cafe for a morning coffee. Enjoy an afternoon stroll to one (or two) of several award winning Waiheke Island vineyards for wine tasting or bite to eat. Miro/Casita Miro, Obsidian, The Hay Paddock, Stonyridge,and Te Motu vineyards or sample a the local boutique brew at Wild on Waiheke they are all within walking distance. The choice is yours.

Rates includes linen, full kitchen, sky & WIFI is available for a small fee, all new shared bathrooms and a spacious lounge area. Suitable for singles, couples to large groups up to 40 people. We have 3 Dorm rooms sleeping from 5 people, double rooms and Twin bunk rooms. All bedding and linen is included in every room.

Luke and Erin your hosts and Owners of Kina, are happy to share their local knowledge and offer advice on tours, attractions and activates in the area to help plan your time on Waiheke. Guests can be assured of the bestvalue for money here so come along and enjoy this family run laid back backpackers located steps from many of the islands best attractions.

• Getting Here
• Get to the Ferry building in downtown Auckland.
• Airport bus (airbus) conveniently departs from both Auckland Domestic and
• International terminals and the Ferry building is a planned stop off or catch a
• cab(taxi).
• At the Ferry building make your way to Fullers
• Ferries as they depart from downtown Auckland
• to Waiheke from 5.20am almost hourly till 7.15pm when it changes to every 1 1/2
• hrs the last boat departs at 11.45pm. Check the Fullers website for times and
• prices.
• Sealink Ferries departs from Half moon
• bay which is for walk on passengers or vehicles
• When you arrive
• Buses (No 1, 3 & 4 for Onetangi at a cost
• of $4.70) & Taxi’s meet all Fullers Ferries and travel to all the main
• locations on the Island. Take the ONETANGI (# 4 )(1 A is best between 4.30 – 7pm weekdays as this
• drops you off opposite the hostel) otherwise get off at the last stop along the beachfront (7th
• Ave), walk up the steps (187 of them) and the Hostel is 50 metres on your
• right, if you feel like a drink stop off at the Beachfront café and we can pick
• you up from there.
• We always get comments on how friendly and
• helpful the bus drivers are so if you need help just ask and they will help
• you.
• We do offer pickup from Ferry at no cost
• - but ONLY with prior arrangement
• the morning of travel, ring us to arrange we can meet most requests. We will pick you up
• from the Orapiu ferry wharf; this is the ferry linking Waiheke to the Coromadel.
• This pick would involve a small fee.
• PLEASE NOTE- At times we may not
• be able to pick you up but will be able to let you know when you ring and ask.
• Other options to get to us;
• Waiheke Island Taxi’s staying at Kina Backpackers; a flat fee of $25 and have vans which
• can seat up to 13 people and have fleet of vehicles depending on your needs. Ph
• 0800 372 411 to book or make and enquiry.
• Alternatively jump on the Island Hoper which you can pre -purchase tickets when you buy your ferry ticket.
