Stayed there when it was Staffa House. Our room was broken into no less than twice, people used the shower recesses as toilets, and there were always drunk or drug-affected clientele coming in late at night/early in the morning in a very unsavoury state. Add to that, also, that someone tried to burn down the place on a few occasions!

I used to flat here with my friend Sandi! Seems nothing has changed! I used to flat here with my friend Sandi. It appears nothing has changed! What a shame! I hope someone buys it, keeps the rent down but looks after people, cares for those who cannot afford much. We were good, clean, quiet, respectable tenants. Management need to treat people better, not like they are dirt. Start trying to be nicer, start trying to help those to get the support needed -- start with a smile! If people have problems, it might not be your job as Management to look after them, but take pride as a human being!

Better than a cardboard box... I have stayed at this hotel for a few months, the rates are reasonable $220pw, for a double room. but the management is rude, there are cockroaches in the kitchen, the fridge in my room didn't work and i had food stolen from the communal fridge. The bathrooms smell and one has a broken soap holder (The tiled shell type with very sharp edges, dangerous if you slip over cause there are no bath mats. Please wear thongs in the shower) The TV didn't work, sheets are only changed once a week and you have to do it yourself. There are a lot (90% of the people staying there) of dole bludgers, alchoholics and drug addicts. Like I said, it is better than a cardboard box, if you keep to yourself and bring your own cooking utensils and pots and pans, plates, cups ect. (if you are planning on a longer stay) you should be fine.

I stayed at 'The Hub - Hostel Fitzroy', for a week in 2006. NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE!
A few points that best describe my stay:
- Run down - the place is literally falling apart.
- Dirty - Germ infested, it has to be seen to be believed.
- Smelly - Reeking of odours that should be heritage listed.
- Poor Service - Management & staff who don't give a damn about life & it reflects in their approach to clientele.
- Noisy - I was woken many times by disputes and on one occasion feared for my life when two individuals were arguing over cannabis were threatening to assault each other outside my door at 1.00am.
- Poor information - I was made to pay a week in advance and told that I could get a refund upon leaving for the days I wasn't going to be there. When I asked for my refund they told me I had to give two days notice. I said that I was never told this in the first place, the staff member in question told me 'there's the door, make sure it doesn't hit your arse on the way out'. Charming service.
Don't stay at this place, you'll regret it if you do.
