Base is one of Auckland's newest hostels and enjoys a central location just a short walk away from Queen Street, the main shopping area in the city. All the city centre amenities are just a few minutes away. The hostel also has its own cheap bar and there is a convenience store in the basement.
The hostel is large and offers a range of accommodation options from shared dorms to double and single rooms with en-suite. There is also a girls-only floor, "The Sanctuary," which promises the use of fluffy towels, a free haircare pack, and top-quality bed linen with feather pillows. Communal areas include a ridiculously small kitchen with rooftop dining area (again this is tiny), a wonderful library with sofas and reading lights, and a TV room. There is also a great bar, an internet cafe serving food, and drink and a travel shop. There is also a spa and sauna, which have to be pre-booked.
Getting to the hostel from the airport is hassle-free. Just catch the next 'Airbus' from the international or domestic terminal (they run every 20 minsutes), it'll drop you right by the front door. Alternatively, there are many shuttle buses running to the city. The train station is no more than 2 minutes walk from the hostel and the coach station is about a 10-minute walk, next to the SkyTower. If you're feeling tired, catch any bus heading to 'Britomart' (the local bus terminal, which is located next to the train station) or the free red 'City Circuit' bus.
