The youth hostle "Ottonianum" Landshut is a part of the city forification and was built in 1839 as a kind of 'courtship castle'.
It is found half the way from the Old Town of Landshut, the gothic city core with its splendid medieaval middle-class-houses, to the "Burg Trausnitz", the former home of the Wittelsbacher "rich dukes". When you are standind in the courtyard - the historic sand area of the ducal smeltery - you have got a fantastic view on the castle "Burg Trausnitz".
The dorm rooms with total 100 beds are predominantly in the first floor and are separated in two categories - "Jugendherberge" and "Jugendgaestehaus".
In "Jugendherberge" we have 66 beds divided in 4-, 6-, and 8-bed-rooms. A dorm room in the top floor has 13 beds. Showers and toilets are not in the room but on the first floor (communal showers and toilets). The chaperons will get a room with toilet and shower.
In "Jugendgaestehaus" we have 34 beds divided in two 2-bed-rooms, six 4-bed-rooms and one 6-bed-room. Each of these dorm rooms has got its own bath room. That is why they are totally adequate for families.
We also have four dorm rooms on the ground floor in order to house disabled people, especially wheel chair users.
A handicapped accesible sanitarian facility is available.
The dayrooms are placed on the ground floor.
The room with a fireplace for about 30 people, the room for reading and watching television for about 20 people, the dining-hall for about 60 people, the conference room for about 40 people and a cellar room for about 30 people (usefull for parties etc.) make our building perfectly capable for meetings, school camps and workshops.
Furthermore there a serveral televisions with video players or dvd players, a 16mm film projector, two overhead projectors, a flipchart as well as the possibilitys to use the internet ready to be used.
Our courtyard provides the possibility to play table tennis(two ping pong tabels; balls and bats can be borrowed), badminton (shuttlecocks and bats can be borrowed) and to have a barbecue (grill). There is also a huge grassland where you can play volleyball (with net).
In the nearer enviroment there is an indoor swimming pool as well as an outdoor swimming pool, a possibility to play miniature golf, play grounds, soccer grounds, a bowling alley and an ice pavillion. As the capital city of Lower Bavaria Landshut offers a rich cultural program like concerts, exhibitions, a cinema, some theather, hiking and tours.
The central position of Landshut offers various possibilities to make interesting and rewarding excursions to e.g. Munich, Dachau (Concentration Camp memorial place), Regensburg, Kelheim with its Danube aperture, the Bavarian Forest or the Upper Bavarian lakes.
