It all started when we were followed back from the bar. my friend Lucy got jumped on. we tried to run into the hostel for help but the staff locked us out and told us we had to deal with it on our own. overall the accommodation was average, but staff horrible! don't go there!

If you're desperate.
I stayed here in 2001 during summer. It was pretty expensive, so I ended up sharing a single bed with my boyfriend. All in all -- it was a lot of stairs, tiny bathroom/shower, hectic bar/reception, and the kitchen was dirty. We still had a good time but I've never come back.

Absolutely Fantastic!
This hostel is absolutely fantastic! Absolutely Amazing! If you are in Paris for a romantic time with your boyfriend/girlfriend and want to spend quiet evenings, the do not go there! But if you are a young, adventurous, fun individual who would like to see Paris but also want to have fun in the evenings then this is the place to be. Fantastic people at the bar and the reception, great crowd of young happy travelers, and party, party, party. if you want to dance your ass, get drunk, have fun, party, party, and find some love, then Peace and Love is the place for you! I have been there once and I am going again! Love it!

What you see is what you get.
This is a party hostel. The reception is a bar. Pretty loud but comfortable. Not amazing in any way. The rooms are very cramped and there is a small shower inside the room. The one-star ratings aren't appropriate but neither are the four and fives.

I found the Peace and Love hostel a good time. My group and I stayed for four nights and enjoyed the bar, staff, and assortment of board games we played with other guests. They had a great tour of the Montmartre area that was only 5 euros. The rooms were a little small for three and the stairs suck to climb, but the people we met and good times we had made up for it all.

Unless you are just looking for a place to pass out after you get trashed, do not stay here. We arranged for two nights and left after the first night, without a refund, because the place was so terrible. The hostel is located in a scummy part of town. the bedrooms and bathrooms are filthy -- the internet access is a joke (one very dirty, barely-functioning terminal). there is no lobby, only a bar where they don't want you sitting unless you're buying drinks, and no lockers or any safe place to keep your bags during the day. Moreover, you don't get your own key to your room. Forget sleeping -- the bar is insanely loud, and so is the noise from the street below; you also have to worry about drunken hostellers barging into your unlocked room at night and (as we heard) vomiting on your stuff. Add to that the fact that the place is downright dishonest -- they double booked one of our beds for our first night, and then tried to refuse us a refund when we told them we'd had to share a bed after paying for two.

This hostel was awful. The worst (by far) in our fifteen-city trip. Though I booked the room far in advance, we were on the eighth floor, one hundred and twenty-two steps up a winding staircase. The staff was incredibly rude, both to us and other guests, the room was so hot I slept on the roof, a one hundred twenty-pound girl has to turn sideways to even fit in the sliding-door shower, the area of town is very, very sketchy (one of our party got attacked in the phone booth directly outside the hostel), and worst of all, on our second day, we arrived in our room to find hundreds of ants crawling around on the bedclothes and pillows, in our backpacks, everywhere on the floor. the staff refused recompensation. As we were leaving, a staff member followed us out of the hostel to remind us (unkindly) not to say anything negative about the hostel online. She told us if we had had any difficulties, it was all our fault anyway.

Phone and confirm your room before going! Internet booking is not enough. I had booked a twin room en-suite and ended up sharing with six others. Almost missed the train back to the U.K. because I was waiting for a chap having a forty-five minute shower! Nice people and open twenty-four hours, so great for a couple of nights. Probably best to travel light but cheap and cheerful. But if you are trying to book a room or small dorm -- phone them first to confirm booking -- they speak good English and are really helpful.

I booked my daughter at Peace & Love, as she was visiting a friend in London, who is going to design school there. My daughter came to Paris alone, and felt very overwhelmed by the language barrier. She found Peace & Love, which I thankfully booked her at. I cannot tell you how kind the clerks at the desk were, helping her get over her initial fear of the language barrier, being in that large city all alone. Naomi and another woman took excellent care of Maddie. They were booked for the second night, or I would've booked Maddie there again. Maddie stayed at the absolute the next night, but came back to the Peace & Love to party the second night. I have thanked Naomi and her friends at Peace & Love for being so kind to a poor little lost kid in Paris that first night. A lot of people, no matter what country, or what city, would've been cold and cruel to Maddie, who was crying in the lobby desperately trying to call me, but not Naomi, and not Peace & Love. I think it is a really nice place, and Maddie said she would DEFINITELY stay there again, the next time she comes to Paris. Thank you again, Peace & Love Hostel, for making my daughter feel welcome at your hostel. We surely do appreciate it, Molly & Family in Los Angeles...

well god forbid you actually had to sleep on a mattress! i am sorry but i totally disagree with some of the posts. if people wernt so lazy they might have abetter time inme while travelling thats all i have to say. it was nice place to stay it wa sclean and it did have hot showers and they helped us out when they didnt have any room because we were walk ins. so we went back when be left the other hostel. it was real nice there.

I stayed here for 2 nights recently and found this hostel to be pretty fun. it was easy to find from the metro, which is literally right across the street. you can also walk to two close train stations. the hostel is a little far from all the major tourist attractions but paris is huge anyway and its easy to take the metro. the long winding staircase is tiring with your luggage but the whole place has a lot of character adn the staff are really friendly and all speak english. you might be sleeping on a bed on the floor if you are late for your reservation. It was a little pricey but all in all, i liked it. The beers in the bar were really pricey but the crowd was pretty good. i would stay at the this hostel again if i visited paris.

This is an average hostel. Problems include the long narrow stairs (which shouldn't be a problem unless you have a problem with physical activity) and the shower doors (shouldn't be a problem unless you are shy). They only had one towel when we got there, so count on bringing your own. The beds are comfortable, but a bit noisy — and if you are traveling by yourself, count on sleeping on the floor in a room if you are not the first to arrive. The bar was really lame, though I think that probably changes with the crowd that is staying there. The upside is that the Metro is literally right across the street, and the kitchen is clean and well equipped. It's pretty expensive for what you get, but that is Paris. The staff were friendly and it is a clean place to sleep, but don't count on hanging out there!

A friend and I stayed at Peace and Love in March of 2005 for six nights. It was very clean and the hostel staff were very friendly. The distance to the Metro is very short, and that was a good thing! This was my first stay at a hostel, and I enjoyed the experience. My trip to Paris was perfect!

Hey, a friend and I stayed at this place for about a month ago. We only stayed for two nights, but not because we didn't like it. To be honest, it's not my favorite hostel in the world, but I've been around a little, so that doesn't mean anything. I really enjoyed staying here. People were cool. The rooms were small and the showers tiny, but who cares? I mean you are backpacking. Backpacking is not about nice, big rooms and the world's cleanest shower (clean it was, though). It's all about who you meet, and the little bar downstairs is just perfect for meeting people. I could write some more lines but who would read it then? So just check this hostel out. There are lots of worse places you could end up staying. And if you are worried about that glass-door shower, just cover it with your towel, which works perfectly fine. I mean you are staying in a dorm room, remember?!

My friend and I stayed at Peace and Love because it was supposed to be cheap (16 euros a night at wintertime) and because we wanted to have a bathroom inside the dorm. Well, it cost us 16 euros, all right — for a stinky mattress on the floor. The bed the next day was around 19 euros. The bathroom was a sink plus a glass door shower, which made it impossible to use if you have guys in the room with you. They should have at least an alternative shower in the hallway for those people, like me, who do not like to play Big Brother. The bar is overpriced. You can hear all the noise up in the room and the staff are friendly — but only with Americans. In fact, this is the only place in Paris where Americans are really, really welcome — which is probably why there are so many at this place. Watch out for the neighborhood — it is one of the most dangerous in Paris. I told a friend who lives in Paris that we were staying there, and she could not believe that we had not been mugged yet. Overall, this is a very expensive place for what they do and do not offer. There are better ones in Paris, and much cheaper. But if you are in Paris for a party time and hoping to hook up, this is the place. The glass door shower in the room is a perfect start. I just don't think you can fit two people inside it.
