I stayed there just one day (and night). didn't have terribly high expectations but the place wasn't below them. a bit of tight fit. but the pluses are friendly staff, good location, and the lack of straightjacketing rules (i have tried a few other hostels in rome and they can have some irksome rules). well, the place delivers what it promises. don't expect the moon and you will enjoy.

This place was dodgy! The most stand out thing about this place was the dirt. The bathrooms were disgusting and whilst I did eat the staff cooked meal, when I saw the kitchen in the morning I was amazed that no one had ended up with food poisoning. Only those with no hygien standards will cope here. Initally I couldn't find it because the entrance made it look like an abandoned building. When I did find the hostel, several floors up, I was greeted by signs reading "cheap spooning rates" and "would you like a sexual massage?" not to mention the cartoons framing the doorway- seriously had me wondering if the place was a brothel. The guy running the show had no idea I was coming, I had to show him the confirmation email first, then when I asked about a key he looked at me like I was nuts and asked why I would need one when the place was always open. Additionally I don't think you could have crammed more people into a smaller space. Having said all this the atmosphere was wonderful. The place was really social and you had instant friends. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and get along well with the staff. If you can get past the lack of hygiene it would be alright.

all that i wanted to hear was just "i'm sorry." after sleeping one night at backpackers (another building!), i went to the Vatican, which i think is the best place i've ever been in europe, i felt something strange. My skin was swelling and getting red. i went to a pharmacy and the pharmacist there said i was bitten by bugs! unbelievable, i paid twenty-five euros a night and i got bitten by bugs! so i went to the hostel again even though i was on my way to the Vatican. i was waiting him for two and a half an hour and he didn't even say sorry. whatever i explained the situation that i was in and i showed him my swollen skin. you can't even believe what he said to me. "it's not my fault, this is rome what do you expect and there's no evidence that you've bitten in our hostel." and the staff being in charge of that building (they call it pegasus) was even worse. she said sorry early in the morning and in the afternoon she was totally different like "you're not gonna be given your money back probably and i've living in that building for one month and i've never bitten." how terrible! there's no service, no breakfast, no cleaning, no ethics! actually italians were pretty nice and rome was magnificent. but if you stay here, you'll ruin your holidays that would be great if not been here. all that i wanted to hear from them was just a sincere sorry. i really don't want somebody in trouble like i had.

This hostel was alright but kinda sketchy. The staff was very unprofessional and had no idea what was going on half of the time. We stayed in the Pegasus location which was a lot better than the main arean, but still our shower didn't work and the rooms were pretty dirty.

Luckily we just spent only one night there in July 2006 but it was very dissapointed. After two p.m. we still did not get a room, they said we could come back about five p.m.! They said we had to move another building near to this hostel which is more nicer like this. We had an exect program so we just wanted a bed nothing else. The bathroom was awful, dirty, and very smelly. You could not close anything -- no locker, no key to the rooms. At midnight when we returned there was no bed sh*t. In the morning we could not check out because there was nobody in the reception. If you wanna a good place in Rome choose a camp ther it is more cheaper and nicer like this. I really do not recommend this! It was my horrible night in my life.

I stayed at Backpacker's hostel for four nights and I had a great time! It has a great family atmosphere and the staff are young and really cool to talk to. I met a lot of cool people while staying here and I like that it is small so that you get to know everyone. I would definitely recommend this place and would stay there again! I was travelling solo and this was perfect!

To say that I enjoyed this hostel would be an understatement. Originally planned on two nights, we stayed an additional two and even were allowed to rest hear inbetween trains (two blocks from Termini) and cook food even though we were not staying the night. This was the most fun I had in Europe at a hostel. The staff of Argentinians are the best people in the world. The cheap, sometimes free meals are delicious, filling, and well received after walking around all day in Rome. This hostel is not for those who must have clean and privacy. It is for those looking to have a fun, relaxed, chill time with down to earth people. I never felt more welcomed in another hostel. Its near Termini which makes the city accessible and I would not stay anywhere else.

I spent three great days at this small and sincere hostel. The food was great and people were very friendly. They like parties and that is a big chance for those who want to have some fun after walking all day long. I would definitely recommend it!

We found the place no bother, its about a stret away from termini, in a random residential building. When we arrived we were told that we were being put up in their overspill apartment. They gave us a lift round in their car which was much apreciated. The apartment we stayed in was basicly a mini hostel with a kitchen and small dining area. It was awesome in a great location. It wasnt far from the main hostel but we didnt get around to hanging out there. It looked very small and full of people, but can imagine it being a pretty fun place to party. Staff were friendly but a bit disorganised about keys and check out etc.

The worst part of this hostel is the bathrooms. There's so much mold built up it's literally almost gagging just to brush your teeth. Breakfasts are good when there's food available. The staff are the sh*t when it comes to partying, but seriously suck at running the damn place. Only a couple clean and it seems no one keeps up the supplies of food and beer. Although the staff are lazy, they are very friendly. If you don't mind a little mold, it's a decent hostel.

This place kicks some serious arse. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. From the second you walk into the reception these guys will make you feel so at home. Within ten minutes they'd tried to get us drunk and fed us lunch. That's service for you. If you're the kind of person who likes to meet random people, stay up late partying, play drinking games, and run through fountains naked then this is definitely the place for you. It's probably worth going just to see Steve playing the guitar, showing off his magic skills, doing impressions and generally just being a legend. Seriously, I couldn't recommend this place enough. What it lacks in space it definitely makes up for in every other way. Even then it's fun to spoon every now and again. Ciao boners.

This place is the sh*t IF you, like most of the good-hearted backpackers, are just looking for a good time, a place to chill by day and get pissed by night. The staff are all amazing, especially Steve, Flower and Shark (although she doesn't work there anymore). The guys took great care of us, and gave us the best welcome we've ever had. It was at the tail end of our trip and was the little bit of family we were looking forward to when we got home, only a week earlier! Keep up the good work, backpackers. ; ) Ps. As there's no bell at reception desk, get practicing for making bell noises when you get there! DIIIIIIING!

I think that this hostel is the sh*t. There are these girls there who are hot as hell - flower and shark. They'll show you a good time... Anyway, we went on these pubcrawls. They were sooo much fun. There was also this tall hot blonde who was working at the hostel or something - no one really knows... Anyway, she was the bodyshot champion. Between the three girls I had more fun than anywhere else in Europe. Oh! and the rest of the staff is hot too. Basically it's the best staff ever!!! Plus, there's this crazy Argentinean boss guy, Marcus. He's hillarious. He's also really good with directions, he'll draw a detailed map on you...no problem. He'll also whoop your ass in chess, so watch out!!! Anyway, there are simply not enough words for the staff at the backpackers hostel. Half-naked drunkin fountain swimming, pubcrawls, serbian sex machines, rockin musicians, a pretty flower, a friendly shark, free breakfast, cold showers, pizza bonner, and sooo much more. Nuff said. P.S. Spooning rates are always a good idea.

Well, it was tiny but cozy at times. The breakfast was ok and the beds hardly got slept in because of the pub-crawls. But the staff were entertaining and fun to have around!! Good on you, guys, you probably know who we are.

The hostel is tiny. The bathrooms are not very clean. But the staff are great. We went out with them and they showed us the place. The common area is small (just a table), so you don't have much space, but that helps you get to know the people around you. We were a group of seven; we had a wonderful time and we met interesting people who are still our friends.
