M&J Place is a decent option when booking hostels in Rome. The location is great, it's just a few meters away from Termini Station and right across the street from a huge supermarket. There are four, six, eight, and ten bed dorms; some with shared bath and some boasting private bath. It's our recommendation not to shell out the extra money for a private bath.... you still end up sharing with other dorm rooms on your floor (as opposed to sharing with the entire hostel) and other hostel guests will be directed to your bathroom in the event that their's is broken or in use.
On the subject of plumbing, only a few of the toilets in the hostel were actually usable during our stay; some were backed up pretty bad and wouldn't flush and others were out of order completely. The staff seemed a bit clueless about the plumbing problems, but were eager to help once they were told. Despite all the plumbing complaints, these seem like common problems that exist in the other hostels (and even private hotels) in Rome.
The six bed dorm is spacious, clean, and amazingly quiet. There are small lockers available at the front desk for valuables, but none in the rooms. The kitchen area is big and quite well stocked. The common area room rocks with lots of comfortable seating and a satellite TV. There are four computers offering free Internet access. Breakfast is included in the price, but leaves quite a bit to be desired (a packaged store-bought croissant and fuzzy peach juice).
M&J is a great social hostel and it's a great place to meet a lot of really cool people.... and there is always someone recruiting people for the pub crawls. The only problem is that the commons area shuts down and kicks everybody out at 11:00 PM.
Overall, M&J is a decent hostel if you're looking for a fun hostel close to Termini.
