Recensione di Hostelz.com
Hotel Annemarie is a quiet, out of the way place in Amsterdam. From the train station, you definitely need to take public transportation to get there, and then with a good map, you should have no difficulty. From there, is close enough to walk (15 minutes) to Leidseiplen and other main areas of the city. The red light district is a little further, but public transportation services the spot quite well.

Inside, you'll find a very friendly and helpful staff. In the morning, they provide coffee and tea, along with toasted cheese sandwiches (not the greatest, but they do the job). They also sell a variety of munchy foods, which can be useful in Amsterdam. The rooms themselves are dorm style -- six to eight beds in a room, in bunks. The mattresses are excellent, you'll definitely sleep great. And the maid service comes in every other day to wash linens and blankets, and tidy up the room. Warning: make sure you hide the towles/linens you brought -- they'll take everything. Bathrooms are inside the room. It's a one-room bathroom with a toilet/shower and a sink. Down the hall, you'll find another half bath.

The whole hostel is very clean and quiet. There's not too much interaction between the guests, it's definitely not the Amsterdam "party hostel," but a good one if you want a good, quiet night's sleep.

This place tries to trap guests into staying there.
The description "sounds" great, but when you walk in the door the smiles slide slowly to the floor. Its looks like an Al Qaeda hangout. This hostel is an unadulterated rip off. First off they use photo tricks in order to make the room seem large. Going in you expect a modest bedroom, what you get is a modest heart attack. The double room is very tiny, I think their previous clientele was Gumby and a sheet of copy paper, because that's how thin you have to be to get by each other in the room. Not to mention the sink that someone must have shat down, it drained so slow. You better empty your bank account or rob one because its expensive. Our first morning we were awoken to the majestic sound of a chain saw as our room was on the front of the "hotel" and absorbed ever decibel of sound from the outside. One night i started freaking out because I though there was someone in our room trying to steal our stuff, because all the sounds waves bound right into the room. Whoever designed the acoustics in that room should be arrested for perjury. But it all turned out ok, for the hostel owner that is, because the hotel had conveniently instituted a no refund policy leaving us to enjoy the scrumptious gourmet fare provided by the hostel. I'm sorry did I say gourmet, i meant to say I didn't know were all the C grade eggs went, now I know. Not for human consumption, I wanted to strangle the chef. On the bright side, one of the guys that works at the desk is really nice and the location is great for the museums as well as a nice park. The grocery store is also close. If all you want is someplace to stay with good location, great, just don't expect much else. Save yourself and stay across the street!

Sketchy!
Worst hostel I've ever been to. Two girls put into a eight-bed dorm with all guys. Didn't dare take a shower -- gross! Too expensive for what you get. Had to pay with cash.

Not trustworthy
I call the hostel asking for their prices. They say it's 15 or 16 Euros, depending on how many dorm beds in the room. I want to make a reservation. Answer -- it's not necessary, we've got plenty of beds. Fine. As I arrived there, after 10 p.m., I'm having trouble finding it. I got off the Tram on the indicated stop, but where to go now? I decide to call them from a pay phone. I do, and they weren't able to explain me how to get. I have to ask around (without knowing the local language). Luckily the people I found could speak English and knew where the street was. It turns out I was five minutes away from the hostel! As I get in, the cheapest bed is 22.50. "But I called, it was 15,16 Euros!" "That price, well, drop it. I wasn't the one who talked to you. My price is 22.50. If you don't like it, you can go someplace else," and tapped me in the shoulder. I ended up staying there, as it was already 10:30 p.m. and I knew no other place to go. Of course I had the pleasure of having to change rooms, which took a whole morning (it's a lot if you're staying only for two days!). Beds and bathrooms were minimally clean. Breakfast is limited -- believe me, they will tell you you're not allowed to take something more than once if you try to. Kitchen is ok, there should be more pans, but it's workable. Kind of far from downtown, I mean, you either walk a lot or take the tram.

I had a great time here. The staff was the best. The mascot cat loved my room for some reason. Might have been all that catnip I pick up at the coffee shop. Wink wink. Overall the best hostel I stayed in on my two-month trip across Europe.

our room was on the third floor, it was actually as big as the bed that stood inside. there was one toilet on each floor (but each floor had about six rooms). it was absolutely dirty and on the second day the whole floor went wet and dirty, but was actually cleaned on our fourth day. there were two showers for all three floors, but one did not work, so there was one shower for all the rooms. luckily we had warm water in our room. another point to the rooms -- the doors have an alarm that turns on all the time if you open them. the breakfast is in fact gone when you get up after 9 a.m., if juice or bread basket is empty, it won't be filled.

What a horrible experience. Do not stay here. More rules than staying at home with grandparents. Disgusting rooms, rude, hostile employees were unhelpful and totally unaccommodating. Is this Amsterdam or Gitmo? They almost ruined my vacation. Terrible place!

Dorms were okay — we were in an eight-bed room, but it didn't feel too crowded. The bunk beds were a smidge uncomfortable, on the top bunks anyway, and kind of reminded me of old military surplus beds or something. Bathrooms on our floor were in short supply — only one toilet and one shower for about three rooms with 6-8 people apiece, near as I could tell, but fortunately we were there on a slower day so the crowding wasn't bad. Communal area was pleasant enough, although rather small. Free Internet access was a welcomed perk, and the hostel's location was nice, right off a tram line and near the museum district.

This hotel was simply perfect. We were in an eight-bed room. The beds were clean and the toilets were okay. The breakfast starts at 9:30. We had orange juice, tea or coffee with slices of bread (brown or white) and jam, chocolate and peanut butter. The people are friendly and respectful. This is a very safe and quiet place. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There are two PCs with free Internet access. And the hotel is very well located in the Museum district and just next to the Concertgebouw. There's also a helpful supermarket at the end of the street. Our stay was very pleasant at Hotel Annemarie. :)

This place is an absolute hellhole. When we asked for breakfast we were handed four plastic cups and half a pint of sour milk. They had cats prowling about everywhere; I can't stand the things. There was also dried blood all over the floor (was somebody murdered there and the body hastily removed before we arrived?. This place is a sh*thole. The only people giving this the thumbs up will be New Age hippies who like living in squalor. It also cost me £30 a night, which was not particularly cheap.

This is a good hotel. Me and me mates enjoyed it. The only bad point I can think of was the rule of no smoking in the room. WREXHAM RULES!!!

I arrived only to find out that they gave my RESERVED room away to a higher bidder! They left me out in the cold with nowhere to go. It's three months later and those they still won't even give me back my deposit!!!

This place sounds great on the website — and then you get here! Did this place used to be a prisoner of war camp? That was the first thing I asked myself when I got here. Cleanliness, health and safety, and integrity are not in the management's vocabulary. This place is not recommended to women travelers or anybody's pet dog!

We stayed here — well, I should say we were supposed to stay here. We booked an eight-bed dorm en suite over the Internet. When we arrived we got a six-bed room, no en suite (by the way there were seven of us, all girls). When we got to our room one bed was obviously taken. There were someone's things all over it, so we were down to five beds. The staff member reassured us that he was going to move the bloke and drag another bed into our room, when there was obviously no space for it. We decided to find another place to stay, which wasn't easy. We went to the tourist information office and told them what happened. They said that they had heard many stories about this place. I don't recommend this place to anybody, because you don't know what you will get when you arrive here. Definitely thumbs down!

It's a very good hostel and the staff were very friendly. They are very kind even if you need information about places for fun in Amsterdam. I hope to come back soon!

We stayed the first week of March at the Hotel Annemarie. We were recommended to this hotel by other friends who stayed here. We phoned the hotel and said that our flight would arrive very late, and the manager offered to pick us up for free. When we arrived at airport we saw one little handsome guy with a bird talking to the police. He looked at my friend who called the hotel and said, "Are you Pacho?" We said yes, and he explained to us that police wanted to arrest him because he was asking all the Spanish youngsters at the gate if they were from Valencia, and then he finally found us. When we arrived at the hotel we had a big room with a big bathroom. The staff were very chilled, and always helped us to have fun in Amsterdam. We hired bikes at the hotel, and two were stolen. The owner did not get angry, and said this was common in Amsterdam. We had great time at the Annemarie, and think that this is one off the best budget hotels in Amsterdam. If you are travelling to Amsterdam, go to the Annemarie. They have a big heart for travelers.
