This is a rural hostel, which is really our Kau Gold Orange organic farm's employee housing given a second life as a hostel. The tone of our "now" hostel is simple, such as employee housing is normally.
This is a drug free establishment.
We have a work exchange for room and board.
Our "under construction" website http://southpointhostel.com/ has additional information.
Our location is less than 2 miles from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park's - Kahuku Entrance. Similarly is the distance to many hiking trails in the State of Hawaii Ka'u Forest Reserve Park. We are about 10 miles from South Point, the southernmost point in the United States, famous for fishing and the original polynesians landed here. About 40 minute walk from South Point is Green Sands Beach, which is an olivine crystal beach. There is a black sand beach at Punaluu, which is about 15 miles away.
As we are now in the process of converting our farm's employee housing to a hostel we are willing to exchange helping for partial rent reduction. After we get our conversion really completed then we probably will be offering linens and other conveniences.
At 1,700 foot elevation it can be chilly here. Please bring a sweater. For hiking please bring sturdy shoes, a canteen for water, compass, space blanket, etc. This area is one of the most untouched beautiful areas of the Big Island. At first you may be surprised by our isolation but our area's natural beauty is a wonderful surprise.
