Nest Hostel Tbilisi is a small hostel located near the Old Town of Tbilisi.
The Location
The location of Nest Hostel is actually pretty good -- it's within walking distance to both the Old Town area and the Rustaveli Avenue area, and you can even walk to New Tbilisi across the river. The only problem is that it is located in a tiny alley, which is a dead end. And there are no markings showing where the hostel is, its name is not written on the door. But the door number is there, at least. Another issue is that there were extensive roadworks during our visit, such that you cannot even cross certain roads. It looked like it would take quite a while for these excavations to finish.
Once you pass the initial gate, you find yourself in a small courtyard, which belongs to the hostel, and next to it is the hostel with its glass facade. The initial impression of the design of the hostel is quite positive -- once you pass the slightly shady looking alley and find yourself in the courtyard, that is. There is a spiraling stairway going up to the second floor. And under that stairway is the reception desk.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is a dorm room on the ground floor for twelve people and another dorm on the second floor for ten people. There are also a few private rooms. There is a small bathroom with a shower on the first floor and a bigger one with a bathtub on the second floor. One of the reasons for the not-so-great rating we give to this hostel is the problem with the heating in colder months -- the second floor especially can get pretty cold, although to be fair, they provide you with extra blankets when you ask. They even turned on the air conditioning after a half-hour struggle, but it was not much of a help, sadly. There is slight chaos in terms of management; it could be a much better place with a more organized and hands-on attitude.
Common Spaces
Common spaces of Nest Hostel are very seasonal, one could say. The sizable courtyard outside can be a good place to hangout in summer months, but in winter or early spring and late autumn, it is too cold to spend much time there. So the only common area except that is the small kitchen. The kitchen seems to be well enough equipped but there is only a small table and three chairs. It is impossible to find enough space there for yourself even when the hostel is only half full.
Summary
All in all, Nest Hostel is not bad; with some improvements it could be much better. As it stands, it is an average place to stay.
