Avis de Hostelz.com
Esperidi Resort is more like a resort in layout with small private bungalows. It had a strange atmosphere, which is governed by the strict rules and early close times of the pool and common areas. It is a good location for families, and does not cater well for the younger guest.

The Location

Esperadi is well located for St. Agnello station, which allows easy access to Pompeii, Herculeum, and Vesuvius and its immediate coast and local beach area. There is a bus that stops right outside that takes you into Sorrento, which is handy as the walk into Sorrento from this side of St. Agnello is quite lengthy. Unfortunately you have to get a bus ticket before getting on the bus and the hotel does not sell them -- instead you need to walk into St. Agnello town to purchase them before catching the bus into Sorrento. Ensure you buy a supply for your stay in advance.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are separate bungalows that have been overhauled with modern artworks (very much a surface renovation). The suite room is a little grotty, as is the bathroom with toilet, bidet, shower, and sink. The suite room has a cabinet in which you can cook your own food -- this dish rack is rusty and the cabinet is not the nicest place to be preparing food. Nonetheless the room has this facility and we do not believe standard rooms have this facility. The towels and linen are clean and the room has both air conditioning and heating.

Common Spaces

There is a bar called the Jackie Bar, which has the owner sitting in it constantly with his friends. It is a little creepy and you don't feel you can relax around him/them. Other staff are extremely friendly.

The dining room is large, though the breakfast is basic and consists of fairly horrible slightly stale croissants and rolls. The coffee and juice is plentiful and cereal, fruit, yogurt, and boiled eggs are also available.

The pool area is lovely, surrounded by deck chairs and with a pool bar -- it is perfect for a day off from sightseeing or for a relaxing morning swim. The pool closes at 6 p.m. in the shoulder season and 6:30 p.m. in the summer, which is a little disappointing as you cannot get back from sightseeing and hit the pool.

Summary

Esperadi is an enjoyable place to stay -- it just has a few quirks you need to be prepared for. For the relaxing resort-style stay, it is a good place to be, however it is too far from Sorrento if you are looking to spend most of your time there and are simply looking for a cheaper accommodation option than Sorrento proper. Esperadi on the whole is good value for money and the access to the pool -- despite the early closing time -- is well worth the stay.
