St. Petersburg, formerly Leningrad, is home to 4.7 million people, and is the second largest city in Russia. It's located close to the Finnish border on the eastern tip of the Baltic Sea. St. Petersburg is a common travel destination because it's a city full of culture and interesting things to experience and see.

St. Petersburg is well served by all forms of transport. Besides being a part of the famous Trans-Siberian railway, it is also reachable by other trains, buses, and of course its own airport. Hostels in St. Petersburg vary in prices and quality, the price range usually being about 10-20€ for a dorm bed and somewhat more for double/ twin rooms.
