Penang Auberge de Jeunesses![]() Old Penang GuestHouse is a beautifully restored pre-war building in the historic city of Penang, Malaysia. Conveniently located in the heart of Georgetown, a UNESCO world heritage site, the guesthouse is a stones throw from Penangs major historical landmarks and tourist attractions.
The building is believed to have been constructed more than 80 years ago but still retains much of its old world charm. It is especially important as an example of a very early shophouse prototype. From the... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "The Wan Hai Hotel is one of these old ancient Chinese homes that breathes history and atmosphere in every creak of its wooden stairs and floors. There are carved shutters on the windows and the dorm faces the street with windows all along one wall which make it bright and cheery and a great place to watch thunderstorms in the monsoon period. There were a few while I was here and I was a bit worried about leaks in the ancient wood but the old house is water tight! The only disappointing thing...![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "This budget hotel has just one dorm room at present and seems to attract travelling locals as well – not always a good sign but they are renovating a bit and desperate for custom at the moment so it could change later.
There are three bunk beds on the first floor overlooking the access lane leading to the hotel. It's a good location right on the main road (Lorong Chulia) leading through Chinatown and the traveller's hang out point but about 50m down a side road for peace and quiet....
