Vientiane Auberge de Jeunesses RD Guest House "RD Guest House only has dorm rooms – 2 large rooms with 18 beds in each. The rooms were mixed so males and females all go in together. There were only Japanese and Korean guests staying here besides me. At first this felt funny but they were so friendly and made good room companions, joking and sharing stories. And generally their English was pretty good because they needed it every day for travelling. At night everyone congregated downstairs in the reception on the floor to play... Sabaidy Guesthouse  "Sabaidy Guesthouse does not get very good reviews in guidebooks – something about it not being very clean. The reception and rooms were fine, if a little small. But once you started to go up to the rooms the families' stuff seemed to be everywhere (and a lot of it appeared to be rubbish), and the bathrooms were grimy. The water was hot but you never felt too comfortable going into them. The owner and his son at reception seemed a little apathetic and answered all questions in... Mixay Guesthouse  "I had planned to stay elsewhere but all the other guesthouses were full when I arrived in Vientiane in the middle of a festival. At first I thought the Mixay was quite good. The rooms were basic but the showers were deliciously hot and there was a reasonably helpful reception. The three dorm rooms were right at the top of the building so you did have to climb two stories but there was a private balcony up to the top with space to sit and relax. There was also a wonderful garden at the back... Samsenthai Hotel "The major attraction of the Samsenthai Hotel are the handful of little tables outside on the street. They are a great drawcard for bringing in travellers and a good spot for a morning or afternoon drink. Try a thick, black Lao coffee here. There's also a TV lounge inside and reception will happily turn on an English channel for you. There are chairs and tables for guests to sit at to read, write or talk.
