Freiburg Auberge de Jeunesses HI - Freiburg Hostel  "Not overly convenient, but beautifully situated near campgrounds and bordering the Black Forest makes the DJH Hostel a wonderful launching point for hiking the expansive wilderness. English is almost spoken so it would be good behaviour to ask "sprechen sie englisch?" (do you speak English?). This HI is like most, being rather hard to meet people although the place is lavishly adorned. Many visitors come by car and are families. A small playground is set outside, though the kids still... Black Forest Hostel  "Hey, if anyone is interested in staying at this hostel I strongly recommend it. I stayed here late in 2003, and having been back home in Australia for a while now, I still hold this place high in my memories of my holiday. I arrived only planning to stay one night and ended up spending a week with a group of great people. The laid-back atmosphere was great; it almost felt like home. Comment by Scott from Canada Freiburg is a really interesting place, with its liberal and evironmentally friendly attitude combined with interesting inner city. It reminded me of San Francisco, except smaller and much less gay. I did manage to get a little bored here by the end of my three days, so I only recommend two tops. Going to see a match of FC Freiburg is highly recommended, and the stadium can be reached from the city centre by a long but beautiful walk (one and a quarter hours) along the river to the east.
