Get to know Haderslev (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Haderslev.

Haderslev is a small town located in the Jutland Peninsula in Denmark. The municipality of Haderslev includes some small islands in the region too. The city and surrounding areas are visited quite often by tourists because of the historical value of the area and the range of activities possible while staying here.

Similar to many other Danish towns with a booming tourist presence, hostels are not uncommon in Haderslev. If you look on the outskirts of the city, you are bound to find great hostels at cheap rates. From your hostel, you can plan your visits to the different parts of the town, including the forests and museums.

The Dyrehaven Ved Haderslev is the forest to see here. It is full of fun activities for the whole family, and there are no predators within it. You can walk around inside and see the animals up close, as they have not learned fear yet. Keep an eye out for the albino deer, a rare sight in the forest.

Another good place for a walk is the park around Gram Slot, an old Danish castle. It is not one of the larger castles, and it is not open to the public, but the grounds and gardens are open to visitors. Right across from the main building is an old replica whale skeleton. If you would prefer a more active park, though, the Haderslev Dampark is nearby. There are two playgrounds for children, bicycles for rent, ice cream kiosks, and more.

Finally, check out the Domkirke, a beautiful church in the town of Haderslev. It looks out over the entire town because it is located on higher ground. Inside, the architecture is quite fascinating, with an old organ and a model of a boat hanging from the ceiling. The church is by far one of the most dominant parts of the town. There are other churches on the island too, some of which surpass this one in beauty; however, if you want some rest and relaxation in Haderslev, this is the best place to go.
