"This was the absolute best hostel in Australia without a doubt. At first we booked to stay for three weeks than ended up staying for three months. With only four people to each room plus en suite bathrooms, TVs and bar fridges, we wish we came earlier, but the luxury didn't stop there. There was six days of work a week; everyone worked for the same company but in different locations. Everyone was on an hourly rate. "I stayed at Zippy Koala (affiliated with Riverboat Bungalow) back in March 2005 and the owner's name wasn't Peter back then. This was a great hostel (with a free swimming pool and table tennis) and was cleaned daily by a professional cleaner. The management were really friendly and found me a great hourly rate job $13/hour. The hostel owners do not employ the backpackers — they connect them with other people needing workers. "Mildura Oasis Backpacker Hostel is a working hostel nearby the city centre of Mildura. They will arranged you job as long as you stay here for long term but unfortunately the pay rate that they offer now has been changed to by contract instead of by hour. It only takes five minutes to walk to most shops, restaurants, and cafes. There you can find all the big supermarkets including IGA, Coles, and Woolworths. "Dirty place, stupid owner! - I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to that place, the owner Peter Doody's only preoccupation is your money. He promised us good jobs, we worked sometimes 10 hours a day to get less than 50$. Also he'll make you work for farmers who have no respects and who'll treat you like a slave. Yelling at you all day long for a sh*tty pay at the end of the week. You'll get charged $10 per day for transportation and his vans are really not meant to be on the road! "Victoria's Borderline Backpackers is the name of this working hostel and borderline is what you get. Presumably named after the border between Victoria and New South Wales, which is just over the river Murray next door, this hostel has not only barely acceptable living conditions for the price you pay, the owner also seems to be suffering from a severe case of borderline personality disorder!
