"One of the Best in four years! - I stayed at Bowen backpackers for about five weeks in october 2005. I have to say it is one of the best hostels i have ever stayed in. The hostel is cleaned everyday by the owners Scott and Sian so it is always lovely and clean when you arrive home from work. They have excellent contracts going with a few big farms/packing sheds in the area, and the harvest work was probably the best ive experienced -- so much so that im returning for my final four weeks! "The best working hostel I've stayed at! - I stayed at another hostel before moving to Barnacles. The owners found me really great work within a couple of days and I stayed in that work for about fourteen weeks. I made a lot of money so that was good. The owners are really good people who go out of their way to help you.They don't tolerate idiots who spoil the fun for everyone else, if your serious about working and making lots of money this is the best Hostel in Bowen. "Monarch Hostel is a "working backpacker", which means that this hostel provides you a job. Most of the positions available are as tomatoe piker. This is team contract: you pick tomatoes with 12 others guys, your wages depend on the amount of tomatoes you have picked with your team, so don't be lazy, don't work with lazy people. Each full bin gives your team $80 before tax (not $85).
