Villa Borgognoni (Carotti at time) history goes back to the 19th century. The Manor “Villa” is placed on the west side of the hill in the city of Jesi known as the “Hill of the Lonely”.
Surrounded within a large and wide enough complex site of conifer trees, it is constituted by a massive squared-base building. Overhung on the building is a tower which gives “élan” (flare) to the building.
From this last emplacement it can be observed, to 360°, an overview from the tower which overlooks the birth city of the emperor Federico the II and the most part of the “Vallesina”, the Esino River Valley.
The whole internal walls and ceiling of the Manor “Villa” are entirely done “al fresco” (hand painted art) and the precious artistic work is attributed to the Samoggia painter in the early 19th century.
For many years, the township of Jesi, have been owners of Villa Borgognoni and always addressed the use of the building for activities of social and community uses (nursery school, music educational school).
During the summer of the 1989, it has been the site of a summer “stage” (externship) managed by the Montreal University from Canada and most recently hosted an Italian Language School for Foreigners with the patronage of the township of Florence.
In the year 2000, thanks to the Jubilee’s Monetary Fund, precious renovation work was done on Villa Borgognoni, and transformed into a beautiful township hostel. The Villa’s restoration still kept its beauty and charm which makes a “One of a Kind” Hostel.
Since May of the 2007, the hostel has been and is presently, managed by the “Zanzibar” Social Cooperative. Staff members Stefano and Danielle will accommodate any visitor’s needs with their hospitality and open hearts.
