Maria Vittoria Hostel is located only a few minutes walk from the Termini station and is a great place to base yourself in Rome. Many of the major attractions in Rome are within walking distance. You can catch the metro or bus to the Vatican City. At first approach to the hostel at night the street seems a little scary with a lot of people loitering, but there were no problems and it seemed safe. The hostel is accessed through a locked door on the street which leads to a courtyard and the building in which the hostel is located.
The hostel is basically an apartment with four rooms, one shared bathroom and one private bathroom that is for the use of one of the rooms. The rooms are large and come with towels and extra blankets. The hostel is clean and tidy. The kitchen is well equipped and each room is allocated space in the fridge. There is no lounge so the kitchen is the only room to socialise in. This hostel is best for those who are more interested in sightseeing than in partying. There is a request for guests to be quiet after 10pm. The area is very quiet at night.
Breakfast of toast (biscotti) and jam and tea or coffee is provided. Guests can also help themselves to tea or coffee during the day.
Maria is very friendly and helpful and provided a map and information on the main attractions in Rome. She spoke excellent English which is useful if your Italian is quite limited. She does not stay at the hostel but provides a phone number to contact her.
This is an excellent hostel and a great base for a wonderful stay in Rome.
