Vitosha Hostel is a decent hostel located right in the busiest part of Sofia -- Vitosha Boulevard. It is a good place to rest after a heavy night of drinking, but has more of a feeling of a guest house rather than a hostel. Having said that, the amenities are generally up to a satisfying standard.
The Location
The hostel is located on Solounska Street, the first set of apartment off Vitosha Boulevard, next to a lingerie shop. You will see a small sign, so keep your eyes peeled! If you are walking down Vitosha Boulevard, keep your eyes open for a huge Milka billboard the size of an apartment block! If you are walking down Vitosha and you see the billboard on your left, the hostel is on your right. Once you find it, press the buzzer and go up to the third floor. The neighborhood is a good, safe one. Don't expect however to find any parking nearby if travelling by car as it is literally in the city center. The proximity to public transport is excellent, with several trams traveling down Vitosha Boulevard on a frequent basis.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms aren't too bad. There aren't really any bunks except for the one set featured in the photos -- the rest of the beds are single beds, which in our opinion is a good thing. There are four rooms, three of which are dorms. Two out of the three dorm rooms have locks. Heating is good.
There is one bathroom between everyone, unfortunately! But fortunately the toilet and shower are in separate rooms! The bathroom and shower are both clean, and the bathroom is fairly new, with a shower/bathtub combination and has plenty of room to hang your clothes.
Common Spaces
The living room is the closest this hostel has to a common space, but unfortunately the atmosphere is nonexistent. There is a great big table in the center of the room and it is rather cramped and has few people hanging around. You are not likely to meet many other hostel guests for a party atmosphere here, if that is what you are after. There is a kitchen available and it is fairly well equipped.
Summary
This a comfortable place, but more a guest house feel rather than a hostel. If you are looking for a place where you will get a good night's sleep, this is the place for you. If you are after a party hostel, we suggest looking elsewhere.
