Salvador, the first capital of Brazil from 1549-1763 became a blending of European, African and Amerindian cultures which are still evident today. Much of the old architecture and character of old Salvador de Bahia has been restored in the oldest part of the city – Pelourinho, and Hostel São Jorge is located in the heart of Pelourinho.

Salvador takes great pride in the fact that Pelourinho has the largest collection of Baroque Colonial architecture in Latin America and has been declared a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. And São Jorge Hostel is fortunate to be located in this area with its many cathedrals, palaces and Museums. We are minutes away from numerous sandy beaches and cruises to scenic and historic islands.
