HI - Sibiu - The Old Town Hostel is easy to find, with a great location, and a typical sterile HI hostel feel.
The Location
It's a short walk from the train/bus station to this hostel in the old town. No transport needed -- really it's a fifteen-minute walk there, just head up the main street from the stations toward the clock town/church towers.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms are large and often walk through to other dorms. One dorm has a TV, the other just two chairs and the smaller one nothing but beds. There is no lockers but they do have small locking cupboards to stash passport/tickets/camera. The beds are older -- some mattresses have buttons (old school and not comfortable) others feel like wooden planks and the odd one is new. There is only two toilets and two showers that are decently clean but line-ups are the norm.
Common Spaces
The common area is a cold titled kitchen that smells like it once was a bathroom. The staff can help with laundry for a price and really are more interested in socializing with visiting friends than helping you. (They can be cold and rude.) There is one computer but it is the staff one as well and not really available at times, but there is free Wi-Fi. It's not really set up for socializing -- the hostel is frequented by large groups so not really for the backpacker looking to meet others. Smoking is allowed in the kitchen, so it is smoky.
Summary
The location can't be beat, but if you are hoping to meet other backpackers, perhaps look into another accommodation.
