Situated about a five minute walk from the main square in Krakow, Kadetus Hostel is a small hostel that seems to attract a quieter crowd. The hostel is on the first floor of an apartment building with a twenty-four-hour reception. They offer bike hire and links to tours of Auschwitz and the Salt Mine. There is free internet use (one computer) and laundry for 5zl a load. Small lockers for valuable items are located outside dorms and keys given to every guest.
A kitchen is available with hotplates and a toaster. The bonus is that the hostel is quite generous with the food provided for guests, with tea, coffee, cheese, butter, milk, yoghurt, bread, and assorted flavoured soft cheeses available all day. While guests are responsible for cleaning up their own cooking mess, the cleaner who comes in daily is also very efficient in making sure the kitchen is spick and span and that new guests are aware of the food and drinks available. Drinks are available from reception.
Dorms for two, four, six, and eight are available. The bathrooms are very clean and seem to have been updated quite recently. There are two unisex showers with just a shower curtain so it may not suit the more modest!
Be aware that if you book into the Kadetus, you may actually be staying in the Joker Hostel on the floor above which is not as nice as the Kadetus. The two hostels share a reception.
