Inner Amsterdam is somewhat of a misleading name for this hostel. Nevertheless it is a quality hostel that is worth considering when visiting the city. It's located about a ten-minute walk from the Van Gogh Museum and a bus to this museum goes from the main train station. The centre of Amsterdam is an easy fifteen- or twenty-minute walk. The hostel is located on a quiet residential street, which means that the management are very keen for guests to keep the noise down when returning late at night.
Inner Amsterdam is like a budget hotel whose owners thought, "wait a minute, if we put six beds in a room instead of two we can make a lot more money!" This is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact there are some distinct advantages. It means for instance that each room has its own hotel-style bathroom. It means you are only sharing the space with five strangers instead of fifty. The shower has to be one of the best in a hostel anywhere -- steaming hot and great pressure. The rooms are clean if not too spacious and are kept very clean. Room sizes vary from singles to dorms with eight beds.
The hostel has a bar and and a large dining area in which to congregate. The bar is a great place to hang out if you want to drink but not if you want to partake of the local herbs -- this is a strictly no-drugs hostel. This will suit some visitors to Amsterdam but not others. The included breakfast is fantastic. A choice of cereals, breads, toast, eggs, meats, fruits, and juices will cater to just about every taste. Understandably, the dining room gets crowded at breakfast. Five computers are available for use of guests at a reasonable price. Inner Amsterdam is a professionally run, clean, and pleasant place to stay if a bit further out from the main sights than some other hostels.
