Walking along the E Capitol Street SE, you can find many exquisite, colorful houses, and William Penn House is one of them -- peaceful and quiet. From the house, it's about fifteen minutes' walk to the back of the Capitol Building, and another five minutes to the front of it. However, the transportation is not so convenient, as the nearest metro station is about five blocks away. (the blocks in Washington, D.C., are quite large). Thus, it is a good choice for backpackers who enjoy walking.
The host and staff of the house are nice people. They make one feel like home. The reception office is on the first floor, while the recreation room is on the second floor. There are about six guest rooms on the third floor. The dining and meeting room are also on the second floor and are really nice. You can use the telephone and the refrigerator as you like. Also, it's exciting to hold a group meeting in the commodious space.
For the guest rooms, some are four-bed while others are ten-bed. The four-bed and ten-bed women's room share a small but clean washroom without going outside the larger room. There could be some waiting before you get into it, but you can turn to other washrooms located on the same floor. For boys' room, the facilities are not as good as the girls' -- they'll have to go out of their rooms for a bath! You can definitely get good sleep at night, as the place is quiet.
Breakfast starts at 8 a.m., after a quiet daily worship. The foodstuff is nice and it's a good start of the day talking with people from everywhere on the big, round table!
