Melbourne Connection Travellers Hostel is a medium-sized hostel located a short walk from the main railway station and only a few short blocks to the main shopping streets of the city as well as Victoria Market. It is also a two minute walk to the airport shuttle point and about ten minutes from the Greyhound station. Also nearby are various eating establishments and bars. In other words, you'll probably find the location to be pretty nice.
The hostel itself is clean and welcoming. The main floor includes the reception, which does close for the night and early morning, but you can always get the attention of the night staff on duty if you arrive late. The main door is card-entry, while rooms use traditional keys, and there is a key-deposit. Upon checking in, you will receive sheets and a blanket along with your keys. Some rooms are located on the main floor, while more are located on the first. The large dorm is very spacious, and rooms include security lockers, which is always a good thing to have handy. The beds are fairly comfortable, though the pillows are a tad worse for wear. On both floors you will also find a row of spacious bathrooms, which each include toilet, shower, sink and mirror.
The kitchen is rather on the small side, but functional. Breakfast is served each morning (including cereal, not just toast!) and dinners are occasionally free as well. There are a few tables outside of the kitchen where you will often find travellers relaxing. The main floor also includes a small seating area near the stairs where bookworms can find a relaxing and somewhat quiet area to read. Upstairs you will find the tv room with satellite tv, and movies are available for borrowing as well.
Melbourne Connection Travellers Hostel is a comfortable place to stay in the city. While Melbourne hostels can be on the slighly more pricey side, this hostel will save you a few dollars without sacrificing quality. Recommended!
