If you are looking for something totally different, than Vashon Island is the place to go. You can choose your type of accommodation, ranging from dorms to teepees (which are great fun to stay in), or bring your own tent to pitch in the massive field in the grounds of the hostel.
The hostel has massive clean and beautifully decorated common areas with plenty to do indoors and out, two kitchens which are clean and well equipped (with free breakfast!), as well as a number of barbeques for outdoor cooking. There is also a big TV with free DVDs, and a pool table in the barn (not your average barn!). Or head outside to take advantage of the free bikes or volleyball court, or just relax in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
By night there is a place to build fires with plenty of free firewood which you are welcome to use, or you can head off to one of the nearby bars in the village and meet some of the locals, who are extremely friendly.
Vashon Island itself is a beautiful place, a great community of cool people from all backgrounds who just love the lifestyle here and a few cool shops, local library who will let you use the internet for free for as long as you want, just a friendly and chilled out atmosphere.
The hostel is run by the owners who are great people, giving the place a family kind of feel, they also have great local knowledge and can recommend the best places to go on the island depending on what you are interested in.
In all I could not recommend this place more highly, and it has something to offer everybody no matter what you are into.
