Casablanca Youth Hostel

The Casablanca Youth Hostel is located just inside the Ancienne Medina wall, a couple hundred meters West of the Casa-Port Train Station, along the Boulevard des Almohades. It is inside a courtyard opposite a cafe and karate school. It is extremely easy to find, and in a fantastic location.

You'll find a long hallway with artistic tilework and a non-functioning fountain just inside the door. The reception is contained inside the large, airy common room, which is full of natural light. Two free internet computers are available in the common room. The kitchen is off the area -- it has no utensils or dishes to speak of. A simple free breakfast of coffee/tea, bread, and jam is served from there each morning, beginning at 8 a.m.

Men and women are billeted in separate dorms unless a private room is requested. The rooms are basic but well kept. Sound travels very easily inside the building, so earplugs might be a good idea. The men's toilet and shower is located just to the right of the main door (after the hallway), and unfortunately smells of rotten lunch meat. There isn't a drop of hot water available, even first thing in the morning. The women's toilet and shower is at the far end of the common room, up a small flight of steps. It is dark, dingy, and home to at least one extremely upset cockroach. Squat toilets, as well as their Western counterparts, are available in both washrooms.

The proprietor seemed to believe that our presence, rather than supporting his business, was an imposition on his time, and acted towards us accordingly.
