The breakfast is amazing!
I really like this hostel. The dorms are spacious, comfortable and clean. There is a well stocked kitchen. Washer and dryer are available to use for free. The free breakfast was the highlight -- there was a wide variety to choose from; cereal, yoghurt, bread, cheese, ham, salmon, tea, coffee, juice, ovaltine, fruit and more.

Old building, but cozy atmosphere in common room
The hostel is downstairs and has a somewhat cellar Feeling. But the personnel is really nice and the breakfast buffet in the morning (included in the Price) is fantastic! Central Location is also a plus!

Decent
I stayed in the women's dorm -- it's downstairs and tho it has a big window, is still a little dark due to high walls surrounding the 'backyard' (a paved space which could be nice if fixed up). There are 3 triple-decker bunk beds and one double-decker in a fairly spacious room which also has a couch and table but no lockers. There's a small rack with a few hangers. The beds are comfortable but the uppers are so low that you can't sit upright on yours. Unfortunately, only 1 bed has a reading light (the lower double bunk, grab it if you can). The toilets and showers are all in 1 hallway, so altho men's and women's are marked, there's no separation. They are cleaned every day. There's a nice, clean kitchen with a large refrigerator, lots of pots and pans, and a system of plastic baskets for separating and storing your food. A great buffet breakfast in the light, nicely decorated first floor dining room is included in the price. The people working here are friendly and helpful. You can leave your bag if you arrive in town before registration opens at 4pm. Once you're checked in, you can come and go whenever you want using your key card (the place is very secure). Convenient location, an easy walk to downtown and sights, a couple of blocks to the nearest grocery store.

Centrally located Hostel offering sheets and a generous breakfast
Very obliging staff -- as we advised we could not arrive before reception closed, I was given a phone number and the owner waited for us and showed us our room, whereas payment the next morning was fine. The hostel is in an old building so nothing new and shiny, but room clean and it was nice that they supply the sheets. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, lots of typical Norwegian fish specialties as well as cereal, yogurts, bread, fruit and jams - kept us going until mid-afternoon! From the hostel it's an easy walk into the centre (we had a car but left it in a car park just near the hostel -- free at night and you only start paying from 8 a.m. -- ask reception how it works with your credit card). Would definitely stay here again, only fault being few hangers or places where to put clothing.

Nice given limited choice in Alesund
The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very nice. but the room was small and the worse part was the bed. I slept in the upper bed, while my mum slept in the lower bed. when I climb upstairs, the whole bed was moving heavily and I needed to balance myself. I'm just 45 kg weight.

Filthy
Rooms were cold and filthy; garbage (old underwear and empty beer cans) under the beds. Moldy, dirt-encrusted bathroom. Actually, this is the dirtiest hostel I've ever seen anywhere in the world. Kitchen was also filthy and had no utensils or cups/glasses at all.

Poor and dirty facilities, but nice and helpful people
Double room was very old, walls cracked and full of holes, but clean and roomy. Shared bathroom was very dirty and there were used clothes all on the floor (there was a punk-girl living constantly and she made a big mess!). shower was old and dirty/moldy and bathroom floor wet after usage. But the cleaner cleaned the bathroom neat after my calling. the shared kitchen was more dirty than the bathroom, the fridges stunk and were very very dirty and full of food rests. I didn't use the kitchen because of that. the staff was very friendly and helpful, internet and laundry for free, breakfast was rich and good (except the marmalade was not in individual portions). For that high price I would not recommend this hostel and would not go there again.

This place is ok. I don't think there is too much choice of where to stay locally so if you are staying here overnight this may well be where you end up. It is not a memorable stay but is clean enough. We stayed in a double room which had its own little kitchenette. Opening hours were quite short in May and we had to hang around outside for an hour before we could be let in.
