A party hostel Adelaide Backpackers Inn is not, but it is a relaxing, comfortable, and very clean place to stay, with everything you need and chock-full of freebies. The live-in owners/managers keep the place spotless and provide a very warm welcome and high standard of hospitality. If you are tired of being nickel-and-dimed at every turn (and let's face it, most backpackers are at some point), this place will be a welcome respite. These are the kind of people who remind you that you get your seventh night free, even when you're in the process of trying to pay them for it. The kind of people who not only pick you up at the airport/train station, but also let your non-paying-guest travel partner come along and use the facilities for the day until she has to catch her flight. In other words, these are some of the rare people in the hostel business who truly know the meaning of the word hospitality.
The freebies at this hostel are great -- a fully stocked kitchen with everything you could possibly need, and it's clean. Not only free rice, but free oils, sauces, spices, and cling wrap -- anyone who has ever tried to cook anything besides two-minute noodles while traveling knows what a luxury this is. And the clincher for most people -- free hot apple pie and ice cream, every night at 8:15 -- sometimes even enough for seconds or thirds!
There are ample common areas, including a large outdoor patio area and a TV room with a good movie collection (and if you like "The Simpsons" you're in luck)! The rooms are basic but clean and spacious, and there is a much larger bathroom/toilet to guest ratio than most hostels have. It is well located on quiet Carrington Street, only a few blocks from the transport hub of Victoria Square, and the Central Markets (great for good, cheap food). The only complaint here is that they have the same flimsy foam mattresses that seem to be the norm in hostels across Australia, but since they're almost all like that, this hostel has a lot going for it.
