Avis de Hostelz.com
A hostel located 3 blocks from the train station. At least that's where the reception desk is. They also have a hostel next to the building at that location, but they own properties in several different buildings scattered around the general area. So if you book a bed there you really won't have any idea where you'll end up until they actually take you to your room. The conditions and facilities will vary depending on which hostel or pension they decide to put you in. The problem is that make no mention of this on their website or on the phone, so most people have no idea that they aren't getting a bed where they thought they were until they show up.

Very good, this place has definitely improved recently
We stayed here in July of 2008 and our time here was wonderful, clean rooms and facilities, excellent staff, the free tour was great, a complimentary bottle of wine for our private room, quiet, air conditioning, perfect location close to the train station and walking distance to the forum/coliseum and all the other good stuff, highly recommended.

Fabulous
Because Freedom Traveller does have a lot of different rooms all over the neighborhood around the office, I cannot speak for all of them and where you will end up, but our room was great. We had a private room with private bathroom two floors up from the main office. It was part of a suite with a shared sitting room. The room was large, clean, air conditioned, and comfy. Cleaning ladies kept bringing us new towels and making the bed! Pretty weird for a hostel. It was very quiet, except for the romantic accordion music that wafted in each night from the cafe below. The free breakfast was nice and included cereal, croissants, and lots of different drinks. Kitchen was open and easy to use, plus they sell water, soda, and beer at reception. Free pizza and beer night (Tuesday) was a lot of fun and we got to know some of the other people staying there. Location was great -- steps from Termini, basic stores, and a fifteen- to forty-five-minute walk to literally anywhere in the city. The staff was great too -- nice and seemed like they were genuinely happy to have us there.

Good
Even though it's not the nicest hostel, it does its job. The staff is really helpful, they give free tours of Rome (by a really nice guy who knows his way around the city and gives great tips). It was cleaned on a daily basis and the six-people bedroom I stayed in was huge. Really comnfortable. I stayed in Villafranca street, and it was like an apartment with two rooms, a kitchen, and a big bathroom. Internet and breakfast are in the mail building (four blocks away).

awesome, friendly, and very helpful staff. very clean rooms and bathroom (the biggest and cleanest rooms compared to other hostels i've stayed in). also have a great walking tour and pub crawl! they do have a couple or so buildings -- the main building at at via gaeta and another where i stayed at via villafranca. best hostel i've ever stayed at and highly recommended!

I'd never stayed at a hostel and so i was prepared for the worst. The breakfast was quite adequate and the evening meal was definitely better than expected. Not a big portion but decent pasta and the house wine was surprisingly good (i found this true for all of Rome). The beds were decent and the people i was sharing with were great. I met a young french couple and four girls from Berlin. I think that the accommodations were definitely acceptable and it was the people i met that made it a good experience.

this hostel was excellent and could not have asked for much more. the staff were very friendly and helpful. the free net was excellent. the reception sells cheap cold drinks including beer. our room was about five minutes walk from the reception area which was good as we had lots of freedom. excellent location so close to termini. the rooms were very clean and so was the kitchen and bathroom. the beds were comfy and the linen was clean. it was cleaned well everyday, and they are very laid back about the lock out times. there is no curfew. the kitchen was excellent for making our own dinners which saved lots of money. the showers had great pressure and were hot. we arrived on free beer and pizza night which was tops, saved more money again. definitely recommended!

Do not stay here. We picked this hostel because it was endorsed by other hostel websites and such. However, when we got there, they had overbooked and were farming everyone out to other places. The place they sent us to was scary -- not safe at all. We ended up staying somewhere else because we feared our lives -- honestly. Do not come here. What they did seemed like pretty standard practice for them and they gave no apologies for overbooking.

To this day it is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. We were there in December and it was rainy and cold. There was no hot water. He said it was because they needed to fix the water heater. I was there for five days and it was never fixed. The owner guys was really sketchy and tried to hook up with all of the girls. I kindly declined. The rooms are dirty and you always feel damp from the lack of heating in the rooms and the rain outside. I went to bed freezing. The heaters don't work either. Although some of the rooms lucked out with a space heater. The website is totally false advertising. This place is a dump. Do not stay here.

I'm a seasonal moocher, i would like to see as much of the world as possible before i die. Does it need reiterating that this is not the ritz but a hostel. Ok its not great but unless your parents have paid for your traveling, your expectations of warm, comfortable bed with little noise are met. I say those who can afford a hotel, get one. Those who require a hostel, stay here. If your a traveller this place will provide you with what really counts -- a bed with good time events (good luck to those guys who expect more) -- maybe go crazy an stay in your neighboures back garden, if its not roughing it too much.

I am NOT recommending this hostel at all! Warning — they have a lock out from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where they kick everyone out of the room and "clean" the place (although nothing actually appears to be cleaned). The rooms we stayed in were very run down, in particular the shower/bathroom. This would only be acceptable if it they charged cheap prices but we paid 23 euros a night, which is what you will find at most hostels in Rome. And their "buffet breakfast" turned out to be measly little toast things, chocolate croissant and juice in poppers. There are no lockers (although there is a general safe), the computers are slow, the chairs for them uncomfortable and the place feels depressing and generally neglected. The only good thing we have to say is that there is one cute English boy who worked there!

Well, it seemed a little sketchy. It was pretty clean, the showers were a little dirty but not too bad. Bed and bedroom was fine. Free breakfast was tasty. Free internet was very nice. Close to Rome Termini train station and Rome metro. I would probably look somewhere else first before staying here again.

Horrible!! This is the worst and the dirtiest hostel I ever stayed at during my travelling. I will never, ever come back to this hostel again. The room was so dirty. They say that from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. they will clean the room, but they just changed the bed sheet and didn't even clean the floor and the bathroom. The room smelled bad and there were only two toilets and showers for around 30 people. Thank God I took shower at night so I didn't have to queue with other people in the morning. The bathroom is really dirty and smelly, and the water flow was slow. It took 30 minutes to take shower. The only good thing about this hostel is the breakfast.

HORRIBLE!!! Never go here!!! Please!!! I spent a week here with five other people in October. The room was filthy, and one of the walls had the bathroom on the other side. The shower overflowed every day and there was FUNGUS (I'm not kidding, a huge mushroom) growing on the wall in our room. Someone just came up with a knife and cut it off!!! The place was not clean at all, we had to go down to the desk each night and ask them to come and mop the bathroom because it was muddy!!! Do yourself a favor and don't even consider Freedom Traveller. There are many much nicer places in the area.

Where do I start? The staff are not helpful and border on being rude. They have obviously never stayed in hostels themselves and consequently do not know how to run one. The dinner is a joke and the "English breakfast" is not much better. The bathrooms were filthy and the showers were the worst I have ever experienced. The kitchen facilities were good but not clean. Do not believe a word of the brochure.
