I arrived to find no owner and no way to get inside. I had to wait more than one hour before I could enter. The owner tried to charge me EXTRA on top of the Hostelz.com fees, saying that tourists did not understand that the deposit did not count towards their final payment. There is one shower for ten people. It fills up the washroom after one person showers, and is highly unhygienic. There is no Internet, no laundry, and no lockers suitable for anything but a set of keys. After I tried to cancel my reservation and leave, the owner told me I had to pay for a whole week, even though I was giving her 48 hours notice. I told her that is illegal. Oh yeah, the beds are incredibly crooked and uncomfortable. You decide, but I say look elsewhere.

Apartment-like conditions. The owners were very friendly and helpful, but it was difficult to get into our room because you had to phone them to let you in. There is no reception, which adds to the hassle. This hostel has a nice kitchen, and provides breakfast, but the bathroom and shower were very small.

We liked this hostel because it felt like living in an appartment on our own. Nobody disturbed us. Bring your own kitchen stuff.

The pictures on the website are lovely - unfortunately, I arrived to find that I had been put in another hostel owned by the same person but run by a bloke who slept in the dorms with us and who had to be roused every morning to provide our 'warm peach juice and packaged croissant' breakfast. There were no lockers and the bathroom was tiny and quite unpleasant. However, the man running the place did give me a bottle of wine for my birthday and the location was handy. Check which location you're getting and I expect you'll have a better experience. But hey, you're in Rome! What more could you ask?

It's a lovely hostel... small but comfortable and the owners are lovely.
