Colors Hotel & Hostel

Colors Hotel and Hostel feels more like the hotel it claims to also be. It's quiet, clean, and lives up to its name -- decorated tastefully in bright bold colours.

The Location

The place is situated in a beautiful, calm part of the city on Via Boezio 31, just north of the Vatican. This is a great place to start your day. The nearest tube stop (Ottaviano/San Pietro) is about five minutes' walk away and there are many shops just around the corner. However it's not very near any of the nightlife hotspots for those who want to party.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are very clean and spacious and of course very colourful! There are many non-bunk beds, adding a homey, relaxing feel to your stay. Private rooms are available. The bathrooms are clean but some of the locks are not in full working order.

Common Spaces

Each floor has its own kitchen, which is always very clean and fully equipped with many utensils in great condition. Free cornflakes, tea, and coffee are available all day. There's also a lovely outside area with tables and chairs. There is only one computer for a fairly big hostel and computer time finishes by 11 as the machine is next to some of the bedrooms (not very strategically placed). The kitchen, the only communal social area, closes at 10 p.m. As there is no living area, you can feel pretty lost if you fancy a night in. There's no specific luggage storage, so bags will be left in the hallway. The lack of communal areas is what gives the hostel its hotel vibe, it's better for those who want to keep to themselves rather than those who are eager to socialise.

Summary

This is a nice, calm hostel that attracts a complete mixture of families, couples, young adults, and groups of travelers. Bonuses include clean facilities, colourful décor, and a relaxing atmosphere. Negatives include a very strict noise policy and the closure of all communal areas by 11 p.m. While party animals should stay away, families will love it.
