6 Small Rooms

6 Small Rooms is a real backpacker hostel -- cozy, clean, and run by an Australian lady who knows what travel-tired bones need. It's a place to relax and chill out in a big, pulsating city. The only pain is that there is no elevator and carrying your backpack up to the top makes you sweat, but it is worth it. Welcomed by most friendly staff and owner, all information you will need during your stay is provided and the service is excellent.

Location

Located on the fourth floor of a typical Neapolitan house just off Via Toledo, 6 Small Rooms hostel is reachable by bus or metro from Naples Garibaldi train station and a ten-minute walk from the main port. On a small side street, the hostel is in walking distance to all sights of Naples and beside the Spanish Quarter of Naples. Still, be careful when walking at night -- after all, you are in Naples!

Rooms and Bathrooms

All dorms come with single beds and the three common bathrooms are clean. There is one real private room on the second floor that has a bathroom, but don't expect too much for the cheap price. The other private room is a two- to four-bed dorm. Dorms are bright with big windows, big lockers are in the dorms, and bed sheets are included. Some dorms have a couple of fold-up beds which come a couple of Euro cheaper.

Common Spaces

The center of the hostel is the common room with two internet computers and Wi-Fi (both free); a couch and chairs; TV and a good selection of DVDs; and Simon, the hostel's cute cat, happy to be pet by international guests. The fully equipped kitchen is a delight for all who like to cook their own meals after strolling around Naples' food markets or buying groceries in the nearby supermarkets. The atmosphere at 6 Small Rooms makes it easy to meet fellow travelers and the strict midnight shut-down of the common areas ensure a quiet night's sleep. Keys for guests who like to explore Naples at night are handed out at the reception and the staff explains where cheap meals and good pizzas can be found.

Summary

This a great hostel with all a traveler needs (just no washing machine) and a perfect place to hang out and explore Naples, Pompei, and the Amalfi Coast, run by an Australian who knows the hostel business well.
