Avis de Hostelz.com
Time Peace Apartment (which is really a hostel) is a welcome addition to the Sapporo hostel community in a quiet area just off of the Toho subway line. The hostel is owned and operated by Jin, who opened for business in Fall 2008.

The Location

Time Peace Apartment is close to Susukino, the nightlife district of Sapporo. Once you arrive at JR Sapporo, transfer to the Sapporo Toho subway line and get off at the Hosui Susukino stop. Leave the station at Exit 6 and turn left. Then follow the map that the hostel provides. Be sure to note the location of landmarks, especially the Green Hotel. If you've passed that and you see the road end with a school in front, you're going the right direction. Don't try to orient yourself with the map at the top of Exit 6 -- that map and the hostel's map are oriented differently. It's a brisk eight-minute minute walk from the station to the hostel. The hostel is located in a side street -- it is easily spotted by a sandwich board in front of the building.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are two rooms at the top of the stairs. One has four bunks (eight beds) and lockers with keys. The other has three bunks (six beds) and lockers with two more beds and lights in the attic accessed by a ladder that drops down from the ceiling. We were here in April, when the temperature at night was 2 degrees C. Both rooms had electric radiators for heat and more importantly, two warm comforters along with top and bottom sheets. There are two showers, men's and women's; a washing machine and a sink shares the men's shower room. The shower is a phone booth-type affair, very efficient with excellent hot water. Baskets for clothing are located next to the showers. Liquid soap and shampoo are provided, but you will pay to rent a towel. There are also three toilets in their own rooms -- one urinal and two toilets with washlets.

Common Spaces

There is one common room with a flat screen TV, a stereo with a digital DJ setup, and a bar where they sell the local Sapporo Classic beer as well as a fully stocked bar with many imported liquors as well as the local Nikka Whiskey. The room feels like a living room in a house with a couch, rocking chair, and two lounge chairs with several ottomans and some vintage hi-fi speakers that work. At night, guests and the owner mingle watching TV and conversing about the day's adventures. In the morning, this is where the continental breakfast is served. There's no kitchen, but a hot water pot is available. Time Peace apartment has a subdued, chill atmosphere and during our visit, there were several backpackers sharing travel tips with local information being provided by the owner.

Summary

The hostel is inside a converted multi-level house so going through the hallway to the showers or up and down the stairs will be tight, especially if you're dragging backpacks or luggage. That being said, the rooms are of decent size and the common area feels and works like a living room (which it is). Currently, there is no curfew at the hostel. When you check in, you will be issued a set of keys for the front door. Time Peace is well maintained, clean, and a nice chill place to stay at when you're visiting Sapporo, which is pretty chill as well. It's recommended!
