UK Deluxe Hostel is a bit lacking in true hostel character but it's a place to sleep cheaply and centrally.
The Location
Right on the main street in Kowloon, just south of the MTR station, it's easy to get to and from anywhere in the city and there are tons of business offering everything imaginable at the doorstep. Markets, office towers, and tourist sights make up the strange bustle that is Kowloon and this is in its heart. The building, famous for its boarding house hotels, offers this one up as the lead of them all, as far as we can tell. It seems this office sends people up and up in the tower depending how full things get. They told us they manage hundreds of beds every night.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms vary greatly adding to the mystique of this place. Before you pay, make sure to see your room. Some are directly in the hostel on this floor and some are in other parts of the building. The best rooms on this floor and have modern furniture (about four bunk beds) and AC, are very tightly packed, and have window views over Kowloon. The worst are very small for the number of beds and don't have great ventilation.
Showers may be en-suite, shower over toilet and sink, mini-bath, or communal. It's surprising they are clean and in working order. Hot water appears to be plentiful.
Common Spaces
There are no common spaces other than a small internet room (pay to use). This hostel doesn't lend itself to much other than sleeping and showering. People are most travelers and short-term workers. Most are very respectful of each other, but the atmosphere is impersonal and not social.
Summary
This is a bed in a good location for a decent price -- expect nothing more or less and ask to see the room before paying.
