Avis de Hostelz.com
Hostel Naturfreundehaus is an absolute gem! With unbeatable views of the entire city, included breakfast and an adorable setting, there is no better place to stay in Salzburg on a budget!

Location

The hostel is built into a fortress wall that lines the cliff of Mount Monschburg. This wall leads to the fortress on the top of the hill. The hostel is on top of a fully functioning restaurant atop the cliff -- it features an outdoor courtyard, an indoor dining area, and the rooms are the top two floors of the building. The location is simply perfect. From your window, let alone outside in the courtyard, you can see the entire city of Salzburg, hear the streets and church bells, and point out where you went during the day. By night it is even better when the buildings are lit up -- it's the perfect place for romance!

To get there is a little tricky though. From the station, turn left onto the main street and keep walking until you get to the main gardens, then turn right. Cross the bridge and walk towards the cliff. You need to take an elevator called the MGM or Monschburg Lift (marked buy red/pink lights on a silver building) and turn right outside until you get to a small street (there is a public map here). Turn left and walk along this road. You should pass through an archway in the wall when the road turns left -- keep following this and it will take you to a bar on the edge of the cliff, and the hostel is here. If you prefer to take steps, there are some that lead to the road the hostel is on. The hostel is a twenty-minute walk to the fortress, it takes ten minutes to descend the stairs and about twenty minutes to get into the heart of town.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are small and basic, containing six beds, but the sheets and large lockers are provided and the view is simply amazing. You go to sleep and wake up to a full view of some of the monasteries of Salzburg, which is definitely worth the climb.

There are showers on each floor which are hot and strong and at a good height, unlike some hostels. There is plenty of room to get ready and places to hang your stuff while you shower. The facilities are clean and in the low season there are not many people staying here so there is no need to wait for amenities.

Common Spaces

There is no kitchen, but breakfast is included and meals from the bar are reasonable. They are large beers for a good price. There are no facilities to use if you want to do it yourself, but the staff are nice and will let you use the kettle if you're nice!

There is no internet network here. There are no common areas as such but hostel guests are allowed to sit in the bar courtyard or use the dining rooms if they wish. However, people who come to eat (not hotel guests) are treated as priority.
