Euro Youth Hotel is a fun, social place where it is very easy to meet other backpackers and explore Munich.
The Location
The location of the Euro Youth Hotel is perfect for any backpacker. It is very accessible and easy to locate, as it is only eighty meters from the main train station (five minutes' walk or less). If you leave the station from the exit next to platform 11, turn left onto Bayerstrasse then take the first right into Senefelderstrasse. The hostel is number 5 and is on the left-hand side of the street. The city centre is also a short walk away (five to ten minutes approximately), and the street is home to at least two other popular youth hostels, making the neighborhood very backpacker-friendly.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are very clean and spacious. Each dorm room has its own lock and also large lockers in the room (locks not provided). The dorms include two-bed, three-bed, four-bed, five-bed, and twenty-two-bed room options. The beds are wooden, comfortable, and look new. The larger dorm rooms include wooden bunks of the same model. All rooms have a sink, a table with chairs, and a telephone. Private rooms also have a television. The bathrooms are tidy and modern. The showers are clean and have soap dishes, and there is adequate space to change (though some showers lack hooks and shelves). It is possible to book a room with a shower and toilet in the room, but the hallway showers/bathrooms are perfectly clean and modern.
Common Spaces
The main common area is on the first floor adjacent to the reception area. The space is divided into three sections -- the first has computer/internet access, as well as tables to sit and eat either the snacks/sandwiches sold at the bar or snacks purchased elsewhere. The second area includes the bar, which is fairly large with seating around the bar to eat, drink, and socialize. The third area has couches, tables, and a large, flat screen TV mounted on the wall. Board games are also available in the third section of the common area. This is a very social hostel where it is very easy to meet fellow backpackers. There is no kitchen, but the hostel offers a variety of tasty and affordable snacks (Munich pretzels, paninis), as well as free tea. Breakfast (included in some room options) is an excellent buffet served in the common area.
Summary
The Euro Youth Hotel is an incredible base to investigate Munich. The staff are very friendly and offer advice on the city (a map is provided upon check-in). The bar/common area is one of the best in Europe, making it clear to see why the Euro Youth Hotel is one of Europe's famous hostels!
