Caulaincourt Square Hostel

Caulaincourt Square Hostel is definitely a colourful and comfortable hostel. Unfortunately at some stages the nearest metro, Lamarck Caulaincourt is closed for renovation which makes getting to Caulaincourt Square Hostel just that little big harder with a heavy pack! However, that overcome, it is located in a lovely, hilly, leafy region of the 18th or Montmartre.

The hostel is in between buildings, a little off the street in the Square Caulaincourt. The reception is small but friendly, and you are likely to have a lengthy check in thanks to a slow booking system and the nearby free internet terminals. But at a reasonable price with towels, breakfast, and internet included -- you can't get much better.

The rooms are small but clean and tidy. Rooms for multiple people can mean three single beds pushed together, but for a shower and TV in your room, it seems worth it. The beds are fully made up with sheets and one blanket. Beds are hard and unforgiving. Showers are usually in the rooms and one toilet is shared among the floor, but we never had to wait.

The hostel offers a fantastic breakfast, well beyond the usual hostel fare -- three types of cereals, bread, and croissants, tea, coffee, hot milk, and juice.

The place offers free internet, so the space near the few computers become not only a place to wait for them, but also to sit around and smoke, as rooms are meant to be non-smoking. It is a good place to meet other people, mostly Americans, although there are others.

We can't fault the place after having been in a few hostels in Paris. It is well worth the price for all that is included. Although it's not the most central location, it is still a beautiful and interesting part of Paris.
