HI - WENTWORTH
The Wentworth Hostel is located in the picturesque Wentworth valley, which has something to offer visitors every season of the year. It is located an hour and half north of Halifax and is between Amherst and Truro on the old Trans-Canada highway, which is now the 104.
The Wentworth Hostel is one of the first hostels in Nova Scotia dating back to 1954. The hostel is over 140 years old. The original owners/occupants of the old farm house was John Livingston, who was a much loved farmer and merchant.
The hostel is open all year and there are activities to keep all guests busy. In the winter months, there is the Wentworth Ski Hill close nearby. With 22 runs, a huge half pipe, this hill offers excitement for the skier and boarder. The hostel has cross-country skis and snowshoes for rent and the managers are always up for a cup of hot chocolate with anyone who wants one. Right behind the hostel there is over 20kms of trails for x-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking.
In the summer and fall there are areas for camping, swimming, waterfalls, cliff jumping, beaches, canoeing, kayaking, tidal bore rafting and hiking. If you hike to the top of the ski hill and follow the trail, you can see PEI and the confederation bridge.
The Wentworth Hostel provides 24 beds in a very cozy atmosphere. It is a must-see stop over for all travellers entering Nova Scotia and a great place for the outdoor adventurer. At the very least the house managers are always up for good conversation and a cup coffee. Hope to see you there.
