The Knoll Guest House and Backpackers is situated at the gateway of the Midlands Meander close to Pietermaritzburg. Knoll Guest House offers travellers comfortable accommodation on their beautiful historical farm. Set on a hill where it’s cool and airy in summer and mysterious and misty in winter, Hilton is home to hedgehogs, hobbits and the odd myth. Experience history and culture in the land of the Zulus as you gaze down into the valley and across the distant Drakensberg.
We offer a variety of accommodation options to suit all guests in peaceful surroundings. We also offer meals on request. All the rooms are tastefully decorated with stunning views over the forest and mountains.
Relax in our beautiful garden or go for a forest walk on the property. For the adventurous traveller, the area offers many different activities such as mountain biking, horse riding, canopy tours, fishing, golf and bird watching.
The accommodation facilities are scattered over the property and are freestanding.
The library room is a double room en-suite with fridge.
Our stable accommodation consists of one dormitory room with 4 single beds (no bunk beds) and a double room. Both rooms are connected through a bathroom with shower and a fully equipped self- catering kitchenette. There is an outside area to sit with braai facilities and a beautiful view over the forest.
Our creamery is a double storey, fully equipped self-catering cottage. Upstairs is a double room with a king size bed, bath and toilet and stunning views over the valley. Downstairs is a shower and toilet, kitchenette and sitting area with a sleeper couch. The creamery sleeps 4 people altogether.
Next door to our creamery is another cottage with two separate rooms. Both rooms do have their own kitchenette. One of them is our family room with a king size bed, or two single beds, as wished, both beds can be pulled out and sleeps 4 altogether. The family room has a separate bath and toilet. The other room is a dormitory with 2 single beds and 2 bunk beds, sleeps 6 altogether. The bathroom consists of a toilet and shower. Both rooms have a covered veranda with braai facilities. Watch the horses and cows passing by, while enjoying a sun downer outside the rooms.
We do have a lot of space for camping too. Some of them are in the forest and shaded. All facilities needed for camping are provided. There are showers and toilets, a fully equipped communal kitchen, and braai facilities.
The barn, which was a milking parlour in the early days, has been converted into a bar and entertainment area, where the guests can enjoy a drink, play pool or games or just read a book in the cosy lounge corner. The fire place inside is always lit in the cold winter nights, making the barn warm and cosy.
