Get to know Jaco Beach (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Jaco Beach.

Jaco Beach, Costa Rica, is a beautiful little beach town. It is organized on one main street strip about three hundred meters from the beach. From the bus station, you have to walk a bit of a ways to get to the main area of the strip, but it's nothing to die over. The locals are very nice and helpful when you are in need of directions or recommendations on anything.

The weather is very hot, but it's nothing that an ocean dip can't fix. The beach is generally clean, but it is not where you want to be during the night hours. Overnight beach camping is not recommended. Theft is a bit of a problem in Jaco, so be careful and be aware of your belongings.

There are tons of restaurants and local shops to support. Tourism is a growing industry in Costa Rica, so it's important to support local businesses and restaurants. There are many different types of delicious food on and around the main street/strip. Be sure to read a couple of reviews of the restaurants to hear about other people's experiences. Again, most locals are very helpful and are more than happy to give a recommendation to tourists. Since the town is small, most locals know each other, so the local recommendations and tips are pretty reliable.

Jaco is also a great place to surf. There are many surf shops and schools where you can get surf lessons or rentals. The surf seems to be pretty basic, but with a lesson, you should be able to learn a little something.

The nightlife in this town is very popular and lively. There are many different bars and clubs to go to after watching the beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean. There are a few places with ladies' nights and drink specials. Again, ask some of the locals or the staff at your Jaco Beach, Costa Rica hostel. Jaco is a pretty small town but there are plenty of people to meet and good food to eat.
