2   Meh After a few absolutely fantastic hostels, this hostel didn't seem so great in comparison. On the plus side, because we went during the off-season, we got an entire 4-person room to ourselves (since a 4 person dorm and 2 person dorm cost the same). I imagine it'd be hot and cramped during the on-season, and there were no lockers in the rooms. The hostel is pricey but prices are comparable to other hostels in Piran from what we saw. The hallway inside is really dark, as it is without windows and the lights are typically off. The reception isn't open in the morning at all, and was often closed (I'm assuming you need to contact them ahead of time or something?). The wifi would not work for either of us, though the staff told us it worked for another guest. The tourist information centre near the city square was much more helpful in letting us know about the internet cafes in the city (the yellow building near the water, and the cafe at the bus stop). There was no kitchen, lounge or anywhere to meet others, we were told it is all under renovation. The shower did not have hot water when we went, even when we had the hot water switch on. The toilet also worked poorly. The bed I stayed in was really well-used and rather noisy. There was a recipe on the wall for a traditional dish from the area; we'll find out if it redeems the hostel.  , canada ()
1  We arrived in Piran having booked a 3 night stay in a double room at the Alibi Hostel in Piran: * Their photos are not representative of the room we were sold * The room was damp and absolutely foul-smelling. There was an overpowering smell of mould. There was little ventilation. It was tiny and squalid * There was black mould growing up several walls * The ‘double' bed was tiny * The reception insisted on payment up-front in cash. There were no receipts * When we confronted the owner next morning, he became rude, aggressive, insisted we were ‘not in a position to make demands' and said we must have some kind of ‘personal problem' * Despite this appalling experience, we were only refunded ONE night from a three night stay The detail: Our room was in a different building, so we did not inspect before paying. BIG MISTAKE The air was very damp - no-one could sleep here, and the room was definitely not worth the €60 charge. Unfortunately we had already paid. We went back to the reception to ask for another room. We could be moved for our final 2 nights (not guaranteed) but we'd have to stay in the room for that night. We were told to come back the next morning. We found a hotel room instead. The next morning we returned. The owner was asleep in a room next to the reception. This was when things started getting nasty. We were refused a refund or the possibility of cancelling. We were told to come back again. By now we were certain that we couldn't stay there after being treated in such a way, even if they found us another room - still in doubt.  , London ()
1  we didn't get the room we had booked (a double room with a big bed), but a dormitory in another house. a family in the neighbouring room had problems with bedbugs.  , German ()
