"An average, medium-sized HI hostel. There is a common area with tables and a TV but most people just hang out on the front porch. The bathrooms have all the right features (private showers, good lighting, power outlets), but they haven't aged well and they aren't very pretty to look at. Big...

"This hostel was WONDERFUL. The owner was so sweet — he was booked the next night so he found us another place to stay. It was cheap, very clean, and in the center of everything. I think that at Pension San Jeronimo I slept in the most comfortable bed I have slept in while I was in Spain. There...

Donostia-San Sebastián Travel Tips & Suggestions

The food is superb -- the traditional dining clubs encourage good eating, the old town is full of bars restaurants and interesting shops. The beach is superb and the harbour has great restaurants. They have interesting churches -- climb up to the statue of Christ find out about the Basque culture (especially by reading the slogans added to the buildings every night). Pintxos are very special, tapas cannot compare. Travel further out north, south, or east and discover Biarritz, Bilbao, and Pamplona -- they're all within easy reach.

I will always remember San Sebastian and I would go back to visit it. We arrived on my birthday driving from a wet Bordeaux to pitch a tent and catch a bus down to the town. The weather cleared up and we had some fantastic tapas in a picturesque square and a beautiful walk along the beach. It's a fantastic, family-oriented place too.

San Sebastian is one of the most beautiful areas in the world, and certainly the most beautiful in Spain. Quaint and old-world, but with all the modern amenities. Great pintxos (tapas), beach, and overall, a gorgeous city!

I visited San Sebastian back in 1994 and I didn't like it. I was expecting a very quaint, very Basque town and I was disappointed on both counts- I could hardly hear any Basque being spoken and it looks much like any other Spanish city, i.e. very urban. As for the beach, it is the kind where people go surfing, not swimming, so expect wind and waves. The surrounding countryside, however, is gorgeous, green and lush, right there with Devon or Ireland.

I went to San Sebastian for Carnival. It was a great experience, lots of culture a and really nice people. It is also the tapas capital that can't be missed. Even when i's cold in the winter there is still plenty to see.

San Sebastian is one of the most gorgeous beach/view/city combos I've ever seen. Great night life and pintxos, too.

I think the beaches are wonderful and the people there are great!

Sand (!) beaches and bars. That's about all this place has got, and it's what they do well. Good place to relax and Bilbao (with the Guggenheim) isn't to far a train ride away.
