"Friendliest hostel - I have stayed at twenty-four hostels over the past year and this was the most homey and friendliest hostel that i have ever stayed at. Both the staff and the guests were great. Many of the guests were long term residents so there was a very friendly and comfortable atmosphere. But there were no cliques. Only friendly people. There was just the right mix of long term residents and travelers like myself. "Slightly above Dump! - The "Hostel" is above a pub with working class clientele (very much so) near the old whole sale markets of the city. After the markets moved, it apparently didn't pay anymore. The eight spare rooms above (facing a busy thoroughfare) were given a coat of paint (never mind the cracks in the wall) and bunks put in. As this was done quite recently they are in reasonable condition. This also goes for the carpets and sheets. Unnecessary items like door knobs have been dispensed with.
