La Paz is a coastal resort town, located in the south of the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. Though the beaches in La Paz center are not the best in the Baja Pennisula or region, there are many beautiful, sandy, clean beaches in the surrounding areas. There is also a ferry port just outside the La Paz city center, with ferries that operate to and from the mainland of Mexico. There are number of good restaurants located along the waterfront in La Paz, which offer a variety of local and international dishes. Daily scuba-diving and boat trips operate also operate from the malecon (the boardwalk), which runs along the waterfront.
There are a number of different accommodation types available in La Paz; however, there are only a handful of hostels in La Paz, as the city is dominated largely by resorts, hotels, and guesthouses. The hostels in La Paz that are available tend to be within walking distance from the malecon (boardwalk), where there are a number of good restaurants and shops. There are also a number of street markets and a supermarket in walking distance. Hostels in La Paz usually include free Wi-Fi, hot water showers, communal areas including a fully equipped communal kitchen, and offer private or dorm rooms. Breakfast isn’t always included, however there are facilities to buy and make your own breakfast, lunch, and dinner. La Paz hostel staff members usually speak at least a bit of English, however some knowledge of Spanish is definitely beneficial and appreciated by most locals.
