Located in the state of Guerrero, Taxco (Taxco de Alarcón), Mexico, is home to around forty thousand people. The Spaniards founded Taxco de Alarcón in the early sixteenth century; the main reason for the new settlement was the discovery of silver lodes. Since then, mining and producing silverware and jewelry has become a significant tradition and big economic factor. Thanks to the beautiful landscape and lovely atmosphere, nowadays tourism is on the rise, which is very important for the local hoteliers and silverware shops. The town is around one hundred seventy kilometres away from Mexico City. From there you can either take a car or a bus to get to Taxco. The best way to enjoy Taxco is walking. Be prepared for many steep stairways.
