Get to know Petra (no more

Petra is the most-visited tourist site in Jordan and many consider it the Eighth Wonder of the Ancient World. Made famous by Harrison Ford during the "Indiana Jones" movie series, Petra is an ancient Nebatyan city that is literally carved into the side of mountains made of sandstone. It was at one point the trading capital of the world as ancient caravans and trade routes from Asia, Arabia, Africa, and Europe met here. Petra has gone through many rulers that include Nebtyan, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Arab kings and therefore its many buildings, caves, and carvings carry records of many different cultures and influences. Petra is so large and contains more than eight hundred known tombs and caves and it is almost required to spend a few days exploring.

Wadi Musa is the town located just outside the gates to Petra and contains all the Petra hostels and amenities. The town does not offer much other than accommodation and basic facilities such as ATMs and restaurants. Wadi Musa does not offer much selection on groceries, clothing, specialty items. Wadi Musa is relatively easy to get to by public buses. Mini-buses leave to popular locations such as Wadi Rum, Amman, and the Israeli border whenever the bus is full. Therefore it is advised to go to the station earlier than needed, as you may have to wait for a bus to fill up. Petra is an amazing archaeological site that is a must-see for anyone that enjoys history, exploring, and nature.
