Get to know Mykonos (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Mykonos.

Guess what? Mykonos is also named and spelled Myconos - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Mykonos is a gorgeous and amazing island in Greece! There is a plethora of accommodation available, most of which is resorts or apartments (don’t worry, they aren’t very expensive compared to other parts of Western Europe -- if you have multiple people, it may be cheaper than a Mykonos hostel)! There will be accommodation nearby to almost any beach you visit. Paradise Beach is the main party beach in the area (and you can find Mykonos hostels here) -- every day and night (during the main travel season) you will find a lively group of people on the beach! The beach has a club and bar where you can order toxic drinks and yummy gyros!

If you have no idea where you wish to stay on the island, go to Mykonos Town! You can find a tourism center as well as accommodation (and Petros the pelican!). In Mykonos Town there is also a plethora of shops and restaurants; you can find a variety of food (smoothies to sandwiches, seafood to traditional Greek food, and so on), souvenirs, and clothing. If you want a gorgeous island to relax on and/or party this is definitely the place to be!

Because Mykonos is a Greek island, transportation can be spotty (they are on β€œGreek time”), so don’t depend on catching a bus at the exact time on the schedule (they may be on time, they may show up an hour or two later); however, the buses in Mykonos Town tend to have better consistency than other beaches or towns around the island. Additionally, getting a taxi can be a nightmare in Mykonos Town -- the queue line for the taxis can be long, and the supply of taxis can be short (plan on waiting hours).

During the season, there are always a lot of Italian people (if you’re Italian, you will be able to find someone to speak to in your native language; if you’re learning Italian, there are plenty of people with which to practice your Italian)!
